Our First Video: A Celebration of First Steps

I don't have time this weekend to write a lengthy post, but I thought I'd share a video which illustrates the sort of goals we are trying to achieve.  The girl in the picture is in the fourth grade, and after a minor false start, she successfully solved a double-digit by single-digit multiplication problem.  Now onto multiple-digit by multiple-digit multiplication, and then...the division algorithm!

And as far as videos go, we intend to document the increasing strength and capabilities of our students as they tackle word problems of increasing complexity taken from real-world situations.  They will learn the techniques for quick and efficient understanding and solution of these problems, and will also demonstrate their increasing mastery of critical thinking.
